The Maldives and India have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to exchange technical assistance in investigating and prosecuting corruption offenses. The agreement was signed between the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) of the Maldives and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) of India.
Under the MoU, the ACC and CBI will collaborate in nine key areas. The institutions will share information necessary for preventing corruption and exchange knowledge on international best practices in combating it. The agreement also includes joint research, education, training, and collaborative projects aimed at corruption prevention.
Additionally, both institutions have committed to raising public awareness about corruption, providing technical assistance for investigation and prosecution, and training staff. The agreement also includes co-hosting events such as anti-corruption forums, seminars, and conferences, cooperate in reducing corruption threats, and utilising international networks like Interpol to fight corruption more effectively.
The MoU was formally exchanged during a ceremony held as part of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s visit to India. The ACC described the agreement as a strategic step to further strengthen anti-corruption efforts and deepen cooperation between the Maldives and India in this crucial area.
