Gov't to reveal recipients of housing units under Gedhoruveriyaa Scheme by month’s end

Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development has announced plans to publicise the final list of recipients of the 4,000 housing units under Gedhoruveriyaa Scheme, by the end of this month.

The list was initially announced by the previous administration, as its tenure was coming to an end. While a total of 20,607 individuals applied for housing units under the scheme, the previous administration decided to issue the units to the 13,000 eligible applicants. However, practical works pertaining to the handover of the housing units were processed for only 4,000 housing units. Therefore, it published the list of the 4,000 recipients of the flats. Following this decision, over 7,500 individuals voiced their concerns, and over 300 cases were filed to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The ACC conducted a thorough examination of 4,048 application forms related to the case. The investigation disclosed that 59.6% of the forms were ineligible but were declared eligible by the housing ministry at the time. In addition, 19.7% of the forms were deemed eligible but faced other issues, while only 20.7% were identified as issue-free. On February, ACC informed the current housing ministry to address the issues related to the list and publicise a new one.

Regarding the new list, the housing ministry has affirmed that the list of recipients will be published before the month ends. It, however, did not provide any further details on the changes brought to the list. The ministry stated that the prolonged period was taken to issue a new list, was to ensure that marks were given correctly, aiming to hand over the flats to the most deserving people.
