Met Office issues yellow alert for islands in the north and central region

Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) has issued a yellow alert for seven atolls in the northern and central regions of the Maldives. The alert was issued to the islands between Raa and Vaavu Atoll. It issued the alert, forecasting very strong winds and turbulent seas.

The Met Office forecasts very strong winds for the islands in the region, with winds of 28 - 35mph, gusting to 55mph. Cautioning against the rough seas, the Met Office stated that the sea level is expected to rise between four and eight feet. The yellow alert issued will be effective till 1500 hrs.

The Met Office urged all individuals, especially seafarers, to be cautious due to the unfavourable weather conditions. It further advised individuals to take precautions beforehand, to mitigate the damage caused by the adverse weather conditions. Since this morning, heavy rainfall and strong winds have already been reported in the region.
