Gov't announces the dismissal of 248 politicians, up to date

The government has announced that 248 politicians have been dismissed, up to date, under its broader efforts to establish a system to observe the performance of political employees.

In a social media post, Spokesperson at the President's Office Heena Waleed revealed that the government has been implementing several stringent measures under its economic reform agenda, aimed at reducing the state expenditures. She noted that 248 politicians have been dismissed from their positions under these efforts. The economic reform agenda of the government aims to reduce the amount of wasteful expenses incurred by the government, while generating more revenue.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced the dismissal of political employees on October 15, with 228 politicians dismissed. The politicians include seven state ministers, 43 deputy ministers, 109 senior political directors and 69 political directors. The president expressed optimism that the decision would assist in saving USD370,557 from the state budget.

The establishment of a system to monitor the performance of political appointees is expected to enhance the monitoring works and also reduce state expenses.
