President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has officially inaugurated Hulhumalé Hospital as a tertiary care facility during a ceremony held at the hospital. The event marked the launch of several advanced medical services, including the Operation Theatre Complex, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and Centralised Sterilisation Department. At the ceremony, the hospital received its registration and operating license as a tertiary care facility. Following the inauguration, President Dr. Muizzu viewed a video presentation on the newly introduced services, toured the upgraded facilities, and engaged with staff to learn more about the services provided.
Speaking at the event, Dharumavantha Hospital CEO Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem commended President Dr. Muizzu’s vision for revolutionizing the health sector by introducing new services and enhancing existing ones. Haleem highlighted that the government has already allocated the necessary resources, including skilled health workers and funding, to elevate the standard of care across hospitals in the capital city.
Among the upgrades, the hospital’s Operation Theatre Complex now includes four state-of-the-art operating rooms catering to ophthalmology, orthopedics, gynecology, and general surgery. The complex facilitates advanced laparoscopic surgeries, with surgeons from IGMH and Dharumavantha Hospital also utilizing the facilities to enhance collaborative care within the Male’ City Group of Hospitals. Additionally, an ICU with 10 beds and an isolation unit for managing communicable diseases has been established. The hospital now also houses a NICU with 14 dedicated beds for specialized neonatal care.
A Central Sterile Service Department (CSSD) has been set up to ensure the safe sterilization of medical equipment. The department is equipped with advanced machinery, replacing a previously limited setup and significantly enhancing the hospital’s capacity to maintain safety standards in service delivery.
