Male' Group of Hospitals has signed an agreement with Road Development Corporation (RDC) to modernise and expand the emergency room (ER) at Hulhumale' Hospital. The agreement was signed by the Chief Executive Officer of Male' Group of Hospitals, Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem, and the Managing Director of RDC, Brigadier General (Rtd) Ali Zuhair.
Under the agreement, RDC will double the current ER's capacity from seven to 14 beds, creating a dedicated space for critical and emergency care. The project is scheduled for completion within two months, with Managing Director Zuhair expressing confidence in meeting the deadline.
Speaking at the signing ceremony held at Hulhumale' Hospital, CEO Haleem underscored the importance of expanding the ER to accommodate the growing demands of a tertiary hospital. He assured that ER services would remain operational in another part of the hospital during the renovation. Haleem further revealed plans to enhance the hospital’s overall capacity, with an additional 28 beds expected early next year.
Hulhumale' Hospital was officially inaugurated as a tertiary hospital on November 16, as part of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s commitment to elevating healthcare services. The hospital now offers a range of advanced services typically provided by tertiary-level facilities, including: modern Operation Theatre Complex with four specialised rooms for ophthalmology, orthopaedics, gynaecology, and general surgery, an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with 10 beds, an isolation unit for managing communicable diseases, a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) with 14 specialised beds.
The ER expansion marks another significant milestone in Hulhumale' Hospital’s development, further enhancing its capacity to provide high-quality healthcare to residents.
