The President’s Office has opened applications for two vacant member positions on the Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM).
The vacancies follow the impeachment of ECM Vice-President Ali Nashath and Member Mohamed Asif. Applications will be accepted at the President’s Office from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm until December 5.
The recruitment process comes in the wake of recent amendments to the Elections Commission Act. The new provisions stipulate that the President and Vice-President of the Commission will be appointed directly by the President from among its members, subject to parliamentary approval. This replaces the previous system where the Chairman and Vice-Chairman were elected by the members of the Commission.
