Minister of Finance Moosa Zameer has expressed confidence that the national budget targets will be achieved, despite recent adjustments to some fiscal reforms.
In response to questions by parliamentarians, Minister Zameer clarified that while some minor changes will be made, the overall budget goals remain on track. The 2025 budget of USD 3.7 billion aims to cut spending by USD 427 million, with a focus on reducing subsidies and pensions. The government also planned to stop pensions for new retirees, but this decision has been postponed due to public concerns.
International financial institutions have praised the government's efforts to cut spending in the current economic climate.
