President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that both in success and failure, the priority will be to serve with fairness and justice.
He made these remarks while speaking at a gathering held in Rasdhoo, Alif Alif Atoll to celebrate the success of candidates from the People’s National Congress (PNC) who contested in the recently concluded local council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections in Rasdhoo, Thoddoo, and Ukulhas of Alif Alif Atoll.
Speaking at the PNC gathering in Rasdhoo, President Dr Muizzu, said that elected positions are a trust bestowed by the people and carry significant responsibility. Therefore, he urged members elected to local council and Women’s Development Committees on behalf of the PNC to fulfil their duties with sincerity, integrity, and cooperation.
“To fulfil the responsibilities entrusted to you, you must be sincere. You must be trustworthy. You must not differentiate between those who voted for you and those who did not. Everyone must be treated equally. You must set a good example. If responsible work is carried out in unity and fairness, then surely success will be very close,” President Dr Muizzu said.
President Dr Muizzu further said that the government will work closely with all elected members to serve the people. He emphasised that all government policies and decisions are based on fairness and justice in serving the public. The President also noted that although the PNC secured many seats in the recent elections, it did not achieve success in the cities.
“In all cities, we faced significant losses. At the same time, across the country, we also experienced a major defeat in the referendum vote. Therefore, this was an election that included both losses and some notable successes. In both defeat and victory, our political principle is to uphold fairness and justice. We will move forward with strength to fulfil all the pledges we have made for the development of this region. The development of every island will also be advanced in the same way," he noted.
The President concluded by stating that the government’s main aim is to serve the people with equality and fairness, and assured that there will be no discrimination in delivering on promises made to the public in the future.
