Maldives, Sri Lanka Pledge to Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation

Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Abdulla Khaleel met with Sri Lankan Prime Minister Dr Harini Amarasuriya, reaffirming the Maldives’ appreciation for Sri Lanka’s longstanding support to the Maldives.

During the courtesy call on the Prime Minister, Minister Khaleel congratulated Prime Minister for the successful presidential and parliamentary elections and conveyed greetings from President Dr Muizzu and people of Maldives.

During the meeting, the Minister expressed profound gratitude for the Sri Lanka’s unwavering support for the Maldives’ development and progress over the decades, especially in the field of education and human resource development and hosting large community of Maldivians in Sri Lanka. 

The Sri Lankan Prime Minister reaffirmed the commitment of the Sri Lankan government to work together to strengthen the existing close cooperation between the two countries in multiple areas. 

Foreign Minister Khaleel was accompanied by the Foreign Secretary Fathimath Inaya, High Commissioner of Maldives to Sri Lanka Masood Imad, Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Aminath Abdulla Didi,  Deputy High Commissioner Fathimath Ghina, and Second Secretary Aminath Warudha.
