Dunya Maumoon resigns as Foreign Minister

Dunya Maumoon has resigned as the Minister of Foreign Affairs today. 

The reason for her resignation is not immediately clear, and there has been no confirmation yet from the President’s Office. 

Dunya’s resignation came moments after a decision by the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives' Disciplinary Committee to remove Dhiggaru MP Faris Maumoon, her brother, from the party for violating a three-line whip. 

Faris was removed from PPM for voting against the three-line whip to pass an amendment bill to the Tourism Act which enabled unsolicited proposals for acquisition of islands, lagoons and land plots for tourism development.
