Gov’t Looks to Implement Agriculture MoU with China’s Sichuan Province

The government has stepped up efforts to implement the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on strengthening agricultural cooperation with Sichuan Province, China.

Officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare on Sunday met with a visiting delegation from the Sichuan Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the Sichuan Academy of Agricultural Sciences to review and discuss the implementation of the MoU.

The MoU, signed in 2024 between the Maldives government, the Sichuan Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the Sichuan Academy of Agricultural Sciences, aims to support the growth and development of the agricultural sector in the island nation.

According to the Ministry, the meeting provided an opportunity to assess the progress made under the agreement and explore further avenues for collaboration, particularly in areas such as agricultural innovation, technical assistance, capacity building and sustainable farming practices.

Under the MoU signed during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s State visit to China, the Sichuan Provincial Department has donated agricultural machinery and test kits worth USD15,575 to the Maldives.
