Gov’t Invites Applicants for Rangers Training Programme

The Ministry of Tourism and Environment has invited applicants for the upcoming Rangers Training Course.

The training programme is designed to equip rangers working in protected and conserved areas with the necessary skills, knowledge, and competencies to effectively monitor, manage, and promote the resilience of marine and land habitats.

The 12 week programme is divided between five key modules, including, environmental science, environmental law and implementation, social inclusion and awareness, basic computer skills and maritime navigation.

The training programme is conducted at the Laamu Atoll Gan Campus of the Maldives National University (MNU). The programme will include practical as well as theoretical sessions. Those who complete the program will be awarded a certificate of completion.

Interested applicants are required to submit their application forms online before 2:00 pm on the 30 April.

The training programme is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) under the ‘Enhancing National Development through Environmentally Resilient Islands (Endheri) project aimed towards efforts to build local capacity in environmental protection and conservation.

Currently, the Maldives has over 90 protected areas, with six managed under specific plans. These areas include Vandhoo in Raa Atoll, the Biosphere Reserve in Baa Atoll, Gaadhoo in Laamu Atoll, Fuvahmulah Biosphere Reserve, and Addu Biosphere Reserve. Some of these are designated as UNESCO Biosphere Reserves.
