The International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) has conferred an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Islamic Leadership and Madani Development on President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Tuesday.
During President Dr Muizzu’s ongoing visit to Malaysia, the Honorary Doctorate was conferred at a special convocation ceremony held at IIUM.
The event was attended by Her Royal Highness the Tengku Ampuan of Pahang, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, as well as university officials and distinguished educational leaders from across Malaysia.
President Dr Muizzu then delivered a keynote lecture at IIUM following the conferment of the Honorary Doctorate.
Titled “Intellectual Renaissance: Unveiling the Scientific and Modern Development of Islamic Civilisation,” his address called for the revival of the Muslim world’s scientific heritage—paying tribute to past achievements while inspiring a shared vision for the future.
This is the first time a Maldives President has delivered a keynote lecture at IIUM.
Over the years, IIUM has made major contributions to the higher education sector in Maldives. Maldivian students have been studying at IIUM since the 1990s with 380 students having graduated from the university.
