DJA holds workshop on legal reporting

Department of Judicial Administration on Thursday held a workshop for journalists as part of its Open House Media Week.

The workshop focused on reporting court cases or legal reporting, was attended by journalists and editors from media organisations.

Thursday’s session also focused on contempt of court, reporting restrictions related to legal cases and how to avoid it. Facilitators from DJA also noted that some media outlets are carrying inaccurate stories that can amount to contempt, and asked all reporters to stay within their ethical guidelines and code of conduct.

As part of the campaign, DJA also met with Maldives Broadcasting Commission (MBC), Maldives Media Council (MMC), Public Service Media (PSM), and senior officials of local media outlets. Senior judges of the courts also met with local journalists as part of the campaign.
