Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure and local NGO Advocating the Rights of Children (ARC) on Thursday agreed to develop “Us-Gekolhu” in the Sultan Park as a children’s heritage plaza.
The agreement was signed by Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, and Zeenaa Zahir, Acting Director General of ARC.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Muizzu said that “the plaza, once completed, will be an interesting place for children. It is of high importance to preserve heritage sites such as the Sultans Park for future generations”.
“It is important to design the heritage plaza so that children can be taught the rich history and culture of the country. This is part of the Sultan Park redevelopment project,” he added.
Zeenaa Zahir, Acting Director General of ARC said that “the proposed heritage plaza will be a popular place among the people.”
“The full potential of the building will be utilised. It will have an exhibition hall, which will showcase cultural aspects of our nation, and will be open for tourists too,” she added.
The project is scheduled to be completed before the end of the year, the Housing Ministry said.
