President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has strongly condemned the Israeli attack on Doha, the capital of Qatar, describing it as an attack on the entire Islamic Ummah. He made the statement while speaking at the emergency meeting of the Arab Islamic Countries in Qatar.
In his address, the President emphasised Qatar’s role as a mediator in the Palestinian issue. He stressed that Qatar’s efforts should be recognised and appreciated, and that they should not be met with resentment or violence.
The President said the attack was not only against Qatar but against the entire Arab Islamic Ummah, and warned that by striking Doha, Israel seeks to undermine peace efforts and destabilise the region.
The President framed the aggression as part of a broader pattern of Israeli violations, including the occupation of Palestinian lands, denial of humanitarian access, and the targeting of civilians, doctors, and journalists. He condemned the double standards that shield Israel from accountability, insisting that international law must be applied equally to all nations.
Affirming that no nation in the Ummah should face aggression alone, the President reiterated the Maldivian people’s solidarity with the government and citizens of Qatar.
President Dr Muizzu called for Israeli leaders to be held accountable for war crimes through coordinated political, economic, and diplomatic measures. He further called for the immediate provision of humanitarian aid to Gaza and the West Bank.
Emphasising that words alone cannot stop bombs or rebuild shattered lives, the President insisted that the world must choose between law and lawlessness, justice and injustice, peace and terror.
The Maldives has consistently reaffirmed its commitment to defending human dignity, justice, and the right to live free from oppression and occupation.
President Dr Muizzu is currently in Qatar to attend the Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit, convened in response to the Israeli attack on Doha on 9 September. The summit brings together leaders of OIC member states to collectively call for an end to Israel’s ongoing atrocities and to press for decisive international action to restore peace and stability in the region.
