Minister Saeed Eyes Creative Sector Growth with New Financing Programme

The government has initiated stakeholder consultations ahead of the launch of a financing programme for content creators, part of a broader strategy to formalise the creative sector and integrate it into the national economic framework. President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced that the initiative will commence within the next two weeks, describing it as a cornerstone of his administration’s ambition to build a “creative economy” capable of contributing 15 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 2030.

The programme is intended to provide targeted financial support to professionals working across artistic and technical disciplines. In anticipation of its rollout, Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed convened a consultation with stakeholders from media content, audio-visual production, entertainment, sales, and marketing. The session was aimed at gathering sector-specific insights to inform the programme’s design.

Minister Saeed affirmed that the feedback received during these discussions would play a critical role in shaping the initiative. He noted that the government is committed to aligning the programme with the ideas and recommendations of content creators, describing the engagement as a step towards unlocking new business opportunities rooted in creative skillsets.

This financing mechanism is embedded within the administration’s manifesto, which outlines the formal establishment of a creative economy as a national priority. The government has set a target for the sector to contribute 15 percent of the country’s Gross National Product (GNP) by the end of the decade, a goal President Muizzu has expressed confidence in achieving.

The initiative also reflects a broader policy orientation aimed at addressing structural challenges faced by creative professionals. By fostering industry growth and enabling sustainable development, the government seeks to position the creative sector as a driver of innovation and economic diversification. In line with this agenda, preparations are underway to designate the upcoming year as the “Year of National Innovation”.
