Islamic Ministry seeking funds to develop more Waqf buildings

Islamic Affairs Ministry on Saturday said it is seeking funds to develop land plots allotted for Waqf buildings.

The Ministry said, construction work on buildings in 2 of the 4 land plots would commence before the end of the year.

It is currently preparing to officially open the 10-storey Waqf building constructed near Rasfannu Beach.

Office spaces in the building would be leased to government offices and state-owned companies, it said.

According to the Ministry, the rent collected through leasing office spaces in the Waqf Building would be used to build, maintain and renovate mosques.

The funds would also be used for religious awareness programmes.

The Ministry is also drafting a bill on Waqf, and preparing to submit it to Parliament.

Waqf refers to donations or religious endowments, and disbursement of the funds for Shariah compliant projects such as mosques or religious schools.
