President Muizzu Caps Ramadan Electricity Bills at USD 26 for All Households

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the electricity bills of households would not exceed USD 26 for the upcoming month of Ramadan.

He made the announcement at a mega rally organised by the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) on Friday night, the “Dhivehinge Raajje” rally.

Since assuming office in November 2023, the government has introduced gifts and concessions to coincide with every Ramadan.

Speaking at the event, the President said the government would continue this tradition again this year. As in the previous Ramadan, the government would gift a canned tuna case to every household. In addition, he said electricity bills for all households charged under the domestic tariff would be limited to USD 26, with any remaining amount treated as a discount.

"Every Ramadan, we are giving gifts, or facilitating certain things. Similar to last year, canned tuna cases will be issued to every household. Additionally, the electricity bills charged at the domestic rate will be capped at USD 26, with the remainder considered a discount,” he said.

Last Ramadan, the government distributed a total of 111,231 cases of canned tuna, including 50,519 cases to households in Male’ City and 60,712 to households in the atolls. The government also provided discounts on electricity bills.
