Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works, Adam Shareef Umar has announced that 55 council office buildings will be completed and handed over by June next year. The Minister shared the update in a recent social media post.
A total of 105 island across the Maldives are scheduled to receive new council offices. Of these, 55 councils are currently being constructed under a contract with Rasheed Carpentry and Construction Pvt Ltd (RCC) through a contractor-financing model. The remaining 50 will be developed with grant assistance from the Chinese government, with construction expected to begin early next year. These will be pre-fabricated buildings.
The government aims to complete 75 percent of council offices by the end of 2026.
