Foreign Minister Khaleel attends ADSW opening in UAE

Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Abdulla Khaleel has attended the opening ceremony of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), currently being held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The opening ceremony featured the prestigious Zayed Sustainability Prize Awards, which recognise outstanding global contributions to sustainable development. 

At this year’s ceremony, Faafu Atoll Education Centre was announced as a winner in the Global High Schools Category - South Asia marking a significant achievement for the Maldives and highlighting the role of youth-led innovation in sustainability. The award recognises the school’s ambitious, student-led project  that integrates solar and wind energy, rainwater harvesting, sustainable farming, hydroponics-based innovation, and improved water management to support food security, health and environment.  

In a social media post, Minister Khaleel said he took great pride in witnessing Faafu Atoll Education Centre’s achievement.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the Maldives’ participation in the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week reflects its continued commitment to sustainability, climate action, and education-driven innovation.

Foreign Minister Dr Khaleel is accompanied by Ambassador of the Maldives to the UAE Mohamed Hussain Shareef, Additional Secretary Khadeeja Najeeha, and Assistant Director Fathimath Reena of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
