Huraa Island Council has announced that 25 plots from newly reclaimed land are allocated to be leased out for guesthouse development to promote tourism in the island.
According to the announcements released by Huraa Island Council in Kaafu Atoll, eight of the available plots are designated for residents of the island, with the remaining 17 being open to the general public. The lease will be given for a period of 50 years.
Speaking to PSM News, Huraa Council Chairperson Easa Ahmed detailed that each plot spans 4000sqft. He stated that the leases will be given out according to the rules and regulations set forth by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment (MoTE), under their instructions. He added that FENAKA Corporation Limited, a state-owned utility company, is making the necessary preparations to supply water and electricity to the area.
Bidding documents for plots open to Huraa residents can be purchased for USD 646.83, with the deadline for submission being 11th February at 1230 hrs. A pre-bid meeting for interested parties is scheduled to be held on 5th February at 1000 hrs at Huraa Council’s Huravee Wing.
Meanwhile, bidding documents for the remaining 17 plots open to the public are priced at USD 1,617.17, with the documents being available until 12th February at 1230 hrs.
Huraa, located close to the capital Male’, is a popular vacation spot with a wide array of guesthouses currently present on the island. The most recent census data shows that including expatriate workers, the island’s population is at 1,654 individuals. These new plots aim to strengthen the economy of the island and create progress in the tourism sector.
