We are set to witness one of the many wonders of our solar system tonight, a lunar eclipse, the last we will see this year. Eclipse prayers will also be held tonight as the Penumbral Lunar Eclipse will be visible here in the Maldives.
According to the Islamic Affairs Ministry, the eclipse will be visible from 11:53pm through 01:53am. Eclipse prayers will be held at the largest mosques in every island, with the prayers to be held at the Islamic Centre in Malé.
According to Nature World News, a penumbral lunar eclipse occurs when the moon swiftly passes through the dimmer, fainter outer part of the Earth's shadow. And because of its nature, it can be mistaken as a full moon.
This year's penumbral lunar eclipse, also called the harvest moon, will be visible in most regions of Asia and in some parts of Africa and Europe. According to astronomers, it will also be the last harvest moon eclipse of any kind that we’ll see until 2024.
