Non-Resident Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to the Kingdom of Bhutan, Shiuneen Rasheed, presented her Letters of Credential to His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck during a special ceremony held in Thimphu on 13 February 2026.
Following the presentation of Credentials, His Majesty the King accorded a warm reception to Ambassador Shiuneen Rasheed and conveyed his congratulations on her assumption of duties as Non-Resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Maldives to the Kingdom of Bhutan.
Ambassador Shiuneen Rasheed expressed her sincere appreciation for the gracious welcome and conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to His Majesty the King and the people of Bhutan. She also reaffirmed the Government of the Maldives’ appreciation for the longstanding friendship and goodwill shared between the two countries.
During the audience, Ambassador Shiuneen Rasheed reiterated the Government’s firm commitment to further deepen and strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Subsequent to the ceremony, the Ambassador paid courtesy calls on Tshering Tobgay, Prime Minister of Bhutan, and D. N. Dhungyel, Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade. Discussions centred on advancing Maldives–Bhutan bilateral cooperation and enhancing collaboration across shared priority sectors. Ambassador Shiuneen Rasheed is also scheduled to call on Namgyal Dorji, Minister for Industry, Commerce and Employment.
Shiuneen Rasheed currently serves as the High Commissioner of the Republic of Maldives to Bangladesh and will concurrently serve as Non-Resident Ambassador to Bhutan, with residence in Dhaka. She was appointed to the post by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on 26 February 2025.
Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Maldives and Bhutan were established on 13 July 1984. The two countries continue to maintain constructive engagement through bilateral, regional, and multilateral platforms, reflecting a shared commitment to peace, stability, and sustainable development.
