Gov’t seeks contractors for affordable housing units in Hulhumale’ Phase III

The government is seeking contractors for the construction of 1,000 housing units in Hulhumale’ Phase III under a Public Private Partnership (PPP), on a design-and-build basis.

The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure said the project supports the government’s vision of providing affordable housing to different population groups.

According to the ministry, the 1,000 units to be developed in Phase III fall under the affordable home ownership model, which is above basic housing standards. The project is open only to 100 percent Maldivian-owned companies, aimed at increasing local participation and helping local companies grow in the development sector.

Proposal submissions are open until 13:00 on 23 March.

The first 7,900 housing units announced under the government’s Housing for All policy will be allocated within the Greater Male’ region. Construction has already begun on 3,272 affordable housing units, including 312 flats in Villimale’, 546 units in Hulhumale’ Phase I and 2,414 units in Hulhumale’ Phase III. These units are being developed by the Bank of Maldives.

In addition to the housing units developed by the Bank of Maldives, 4000 units are financed by India. The Saudi Fund for Development and other foreign parties are financing other projects. In total, over 9,000 housing units are currently in different stages of construction across the Maldives.
