The Ministry of Tourism and Environment (MoTE) has reported that a 27 percent surge has been observed in the number of visitors to Maldives from China as of 25 February, compared to the same period last year.
MoTE daily update reports show that 72,212 tourists from China have visited the island nation by 25th February, compared to the 56,765 in 2025.
China is currently dominating the tourist market in the country this year, keeping in line with last year. Despite the decline in numbers in the first three weeks of 2026 with China dropping to sixth place, figures have risen sharply once again from seventh February.
Data also shows that Russia is in second place, with 49,744 tourist arrivals followed closely by Italy with 43,497 tourists. Total tourist figures stand at 444,403 travellers so far this year, a 9.5 percent increase from the 405,878 in 2025. The average number of visitors per day is approximately 8,080. The highest number of daily arrivals was on February 14th at 11,136 tourists.
A record number of tourists have visited Maldives in 2025, at 2.2 million travellers, with the government aiming to reach 2.5 million tourists this year.
