Resorts remain the overwhelming choice with over 300,000 tourists

The Maldives has welcomed more than half a million international tourists so far this year, according to the latest data released by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment.

According to the data, 562,956 tourists have holidayed in the Maldives—a 5.1 percent increase compared to 535,781 arrivals during the same period last year.

Of these visitors, over 378,850 chose to stay at luxury resorts, reaffirming the nation’s reputation as a premier tropical getaway. An additional 146,351 tourists stayed in guesthouses, 16,061 in hotels, and 11,744 embarked on liveaboard safaris.

The top source markets continue to shift, with China now leading the list with 86,464 visitors, followed by Russia (66,960), the United Kingdom (53,077), Italy (52,632), and Germany (35,811).

Despite a strong start to the year, with daily arrivals averaging over 6,000, the current rate has dipped to around 4,000 tourists per day, largely due to the ongoing regional instability in the Middle East—a key transit corridor for nearly 30 percent of tourist arrivals.

Building on the success of 2.2 million visitors in 2025, the government remains committed to its target of attracting 2.5 million tourists by year-end.
