Gov’t awards health infrastructure projects to three companies

Three government-owned companies have been awarded contracts to build health facilities in five islands.

The contracts were awarded to the Road Development Corporation (RDC), Fenaka Corporation Limited, and Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). The projects involve new buildings or extensions to existing health centres, and aim to improve healthcare infrastructure and services in the islands.

RDC was awarded the project for the health centre expansion in Hoadedhoo, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll. The project’s scope includes the development of a nurse station, four-bed ward, private room, procedure room, laboratory, and a public health unit. A meeting hall, store room and a laundry will also be established. The project was awarded for USD 525,292, to be completed in 365 days.

Fenaka was awarded two projects in two different islands, including expansion of the health centre in Maakurathu, Raa Atoll. Basic clinical infrastructure including a 04-bed ward, nurse station, private room, laboratory and procedure room will be developed under the project. The project’s value is USD 330,740 and is scheduled to be completed within 300 days.

Similar infrastructure, along with a store room, laundry and garage will be developed at Vaadhoo Health Centre. The project was awarded to Fenaka for USD 369,650, to be completed within 365 days.

MTCC was also awarded two projects, including Kandoodhoo Health Centre and Himmafushi Health Centre expansion. While the company has been tasked with completing the remaining works in the development of Kandoodhoo’s new health centre building, the project’s value is USD 1.41 million, and must be completed within 390 days. The Himmafushi project involves the introduction of larger-scale facilities including multiple wards, private rooms, X-ray room, general and medical storerooms and laundry established at the health centres, in addition to the basic clinical infrastructure. The project is valued at USD 726,330 and is to be completed within 360 days.
