Hajj pilgrims to again benefit from streamlined Makkah Route Initiative

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has confirmed that the travel arrangements of pilgrims from the Maldives for Hajj will once again be arranged under Saudi Arabia's prestigious Makkah Route Initiative this year.

Building on the successful launch of the service in the Maldives last year, the initiative continues its mission to provide unparalleled convenience for pilgrims undertaking the sacred journey.

In preparation for the event, an advance team from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is scheduled to arrive in the Maldives next week. Their primary task will be to oversee the initial phases of the process, which includes collecting all necessary information and biometric data from pilgrims for administrative and security purposes before their departure.

The cornerstone of the Makkah Route Initiative is its ability to significantly expedite the travel experience. By completing passport control, visa verification, and customs procedures in the country of departure, pilgrims are spared the lengthy immigration queues upon arrival in Jeddah.

Officials highlighted the remarkable efficiency of last year's operation, noting that pilgrims were able to move through the terminal in as little as three minutes after disembarking their flight.

A major convenience of the programme is the streamlined luggage handling. Pilgrims do not need to collect their baggage at the airport in Saudi Arabia. Instead, luggage is transported directly from the Maldives to the pilgrims' designated accommodation in Mecca, allowing travelers to proceed immediately to their hotels upon arrival.

This comprehensive service is designed to save valuable time and alleviate the traditional stresses associated with airport formalities, making the spiritual journey smoother and more focused for all pilgrims.

The continuation of this initiative follows a meeting held in November last year between the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, and the Supervisory Committee of the Makkah Route Initiative in Saudi Arabia, reinforcing the strong bilateral cooperation in serving Hajj pilgrims.
