President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Mohamed Hussain Shareef as Chief Government Spokesperson at the President’s Office, granting him ministerial rank.

The President’s Office said Mohamed Hussain Shareef brings extensive experience in government communications and diplomacy to the role. He has previously served as a Cabinet minister and represented the Maldives as ambassador to several countries.

Shareef is no stranger to the position, having served as Chief Government Spokesperson from 2005 to 2007, followed by a term as Presidential Spokesperson between 2007 and 2008. During his earlier tenure, he also played a key role in establishing the Strategic Communications Unit at the President’s Office.
