MTCC contracted for Innamaadhoo, Maarandhoo development projects

The Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development has contracted Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to carry out infrastructure development projects in Raa Innamaadhoo and Haa Alifu Maarandhoo.

State Minister Ismail Hameed and MTCC Deputy Managing Director Mohamed Jamsheed signed the agreements at a ceremony held at the ministry today. State Minister Hameed signed on behalf of the ministry, while Jamsheed represented MTCC.

Under the agreements, MTCC will develop the swimming area in Raa Innamaadhoo and carry out beach protection works in Haa Alifu Maarandhoo.

MTCC will construct a 100-metre rock-boulder groyne and a 200-metre rock-boulder breakwater as part of the Innamaadhoo beach protection project, along with 4,100 cubic metres of beach nourishment. The project is scheduled for completion within 180 days.

The scope of the Maarandhoo project includes backfilling 2.28 hectares, constructing 939 metres of rock-boulder revetment, a 312-metre rock-boulder low-crest breakwater and a 180-metre groyne.

The two projects add to development works recently assigned to MTCC across nine islands. Most of those projects involve harbour and coastal protection works.
