Fuel stations established in six islands to improve nationwide access

Fuel stations have been established in six islands as part of the government’s efforts to improve access to fuel across the Maldives.

The initiative follows concerns raised by fishermen over the lack of affordable fuel in the islands. In response, the government has begun expanding fuel infrastructure to ensure easier and more reliable supply nationwide.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has directed the development of fuel storage facilities across different regions to provide fuel to fishermen at lower prices.

The first fuel storage facility under the project was opened in Dhuvaafaru, Raa Atoll, on Fishermen’s Day 2025. The project aims to establish fuel stations in a total of 18 islands.

Under the initiative, fuel stations have been set up in Dhuvaafaru in Raa Atoll, Ihavandhoo in Haa Alifu Atoll, Hanimaadhoo in Haa Dhaalu Atoll, Milandhoo in Shaviyani Atoll, and Eydhafushi in Baa Atoll. In addition, a separate fuel station has been opened in Kudahuvadhoo in Dhaalu Atoll by Fuel Supplies Maldives (FSM).

To further strengthen fuel supply services, an additional fuel bowser will be introduced in Fuvahmulah City. The initiative has been assigned to State Trading Organisation (STO).

In addition, an extra fuel bowser will be deployed to further strengthen refuelling arrangements in Fuvahmulah. The government has stated that the project aims to ensure affordable and consistent fuel access for both fishermen and the general public across all atolls.

In addition to Greater Male', FSM services are currently available in Gan and Hulhumeedhoo in Addu City, Kooddoo, Fuvahmulah City, Thinadhoo City and Felivaru.
