State-owned utility FENAKA Corporation Ltd. said on Sunday that it was working to repair generator sets in 41 islands.
The state-owned utility company provides electricity services in 151 islands across the country.
Managing Director Ahmed Shareef said “they have put out the projects to tender and have placed orders for generator sets and spare parts to repair damaged generator sets in 41 islands.”
“Since most of the companies that expressed interest in supplying the generator sets and spare parts are foreign, the company is facing difficulties due to a shortage of U.S. dollars,” Shareef said.
According to the company, it is currently conducting repair work of generator sets in some islands, using spare parts that are locally available.
