"Male' Taxi" launches mobile application

The "Male' Taxi" mobile application has been launched to further modernise the government-run taxi service in the capital Male’.

The new application, developed by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), represents a major upgrade to the existing government-run Male' Taxi Line service and aims to enhance convenience, safety, and accessibility for citizens and visitors alike.

While the Male' Taxi Line initially introduced a web-based booking system to allow taxi reservations online, MTCC recognised the growing need for a dedicated mobile solution that would provide passengers with seamless access to taxi services directly from their smartphones.

Available now for iOS users on the App Store, the app promises a faster, more convenient way to hail a ride, while Android users can expect the platform to hit the Google Play store within the next few weeks. The newly launched "Male' Taxi" application addresses this demand by offering a comprehensive suite of features designed to streamline the entire taxi booking experience.

One of the most notable features of the application is its advanced trip scheduling capability. Users can now search for available taxis and schedule their journeys up to a minimum of three hours. The application conveniently displays details of both completed trips and upcoming scheduled journeys, allowing users to maintain a clear record of their transportation history.

Payment flexibility stands as another cornerstone of the new platform. The "Male' Taxi" application offers multiple payment methods to accommodate diverse user preferences. Passengers can deposit funds into an in-app digital wallet for quick and easy transactions, pay securely using credit or debit cards through an integrated bank payment gateway, or utilise the convenient "Scan and Pay" service for contactless payments.

Beyond convenience, the application places considerable emphasis on passenger safety and security. An integrated emergency feature allows users to quickly access assistance during critical situations, providing an additional layer of protection when traveling. The application also facilitates direct communication between passengers and drivers through built-in call and text functionalities, enabling real-time coordination and addressing any concerns that may arise during a journey. The platform includes a dedicated lost and found reporting mechanism, allowing users to report misplaced items left inside taxis and facilitating the recovery of forgotten belongings.

Despite the introduction of this innovative mobile application, MTCC has confirmed that the existing booking options will remain fully operational. Members of the public who prefer traditional methods can continue booking taxis through the Male' Taxi website or by calling the dedicated hotline number 1655.
