NSPA launches WhatsApp service for Maldivians seeking therapy overseas

The National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) has introduced a dedicated WhatsApp service to improve access to therapeutic services for Maldivians living overseas, addressing longstanding difficulties in contacting the agency's hotline.

NSPA provides therapeutic treatment, including speech therapy and occupational therapy, to Maldivians both in the country and abroad. However, the agency said existing arrangements for obtaining information have posed significant challenges for those residing overseas, prompting the introduction of a more accessible communication channel.

Speaking to PSM News, NSPA Chief Executive Officer Aminath Shirna said 58 Maldivians living abroad have already registered with the agency. She acknowledged that many overseas users had experienced difficulties contacting the official hotline because of time zone differences and connectivity issues.

Shirna said the new WhatsApp service will enable users to receive the same support and information directly on their mobile phones at their convenience.

The service will be available via WhatsApp on 7291402 from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm daily, except on public holidays.

In addition to services provided under the Aasandha universal health insurance scheme, NSPA offers a wide range of social assistance programmes, including support for health-related treatments, assistance for older people, single mothers caring for children, and individuals living in poverty.
