Fathimath Ameeza appointed Commissioner General of Taxation at MIRA

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Fathimath Ameeza as Maldives Inland Revenue Authority's new Commissioner General of Taxation.

Ameeza, from Cozy Round in Gadhdhoo, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, was appointed following the approval of the Parliament, which endorsed her suitability for the post.

The position became vacant after the resignation of Hassan Zareer, who stepped down following his appointment by the President as Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises.

Ameeza has served at MIRA for more than 16 years. Following the interview process, she received a score of 92.44 per cent from the relevant parliamentary committee, whose members unanimously agreed that she met the requirements for the role.

Most recently, Ameeza served as MIRA's Deputy Commissioner General. During her tenure, she played a key role in reforming tax policy, strengthening the institution's governance and operational systems, and driving initiatives to increase state revenue across the organisation.

Throughout her career at MIRA, including her leadership of the Enforcement Division, Ameeza has led efforts to recover unpaid tax and non-tax revenue by using data analytics and evidence-based enforcement strategies, significantly strengthening the authority's revenue collection work.

Ameeza holds a Master of Science in Accounting from the International Islamic University Malaysia and a Bachelor's degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.
