The High Court on Sunday upheld a Civil Court order on Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) to handover party reins to its advisor – President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
The Civil Court order, issued last Sunday, stripped party leader – former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom from the party’s leadership.
The High Court, in its ruling, said it found no legal or constitutional basis to overturn the lower court decision.
The Civil Court ruling followed a petition filed by two senior members of the party seeking court intervention to bring an end to the party’s leadership dispute.
