Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom on Tuesday filed an appeal against the High Court decision to uphold a lower court’s order to hand over the reins of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) to its advisor.
The Civil Court order, issued on October 16, stripped President Gayoom of the PPM’s leadership.
The High Court on Sunday upheld the lower court decision, saying it found no legal or constitutional basis to overturn the lower court decision.
The Civil Court ruling followed a petition filed by two senior members of the party seeking court intervention to bring an end to the party’s leadership dispute.
The Supreme Court has yet to make a decision on hearing the appeal.
