Statistics show that women aged between 25 and 34 make up the largest share of tourists who have visited the Maldives so far this year.
According to the weekly update report published by the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation , female tourists account for the highest number of arrivals so far this year. The statistics also show that women outnumber men in every age group except among tourists aged over 65.
Of the 1.3 million tourists who have visited the Maldives so far this year, 14 percent are women aged between 25 and 34. The second-largest group comprises women aged 35 to 44, accounting for 11.8 percent of arrivals. The third-largest group is female tourists aged under 14.
Among male tourists, the largest groups visiting the Maldives are those aged between 25 and 34 and those aged between 25 and 34.
Looking at tourist arrivals by nationality, Chinese tourists make up the largest group, followed by Russian tourists.
More than 200,000 tourists have arrived from each of these two countries. The United Kingdom is the third-largest source market, with more than 100,000 tourists visiting the Maldives.
The Maldives has received 1.3 million tourist arrivals so far this year, about 3 percent lower than the 1.4 million tourists recorded during the same period last year.
Tourist arrivals have now begun to increase. More than 100,000 tourists have arrived in the Maldives so far this month, representing a 2.6 percent increase compared with the number recorded during the same period in August last year.
