The Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Endowments has held formal discussions with Saudi Arabia's Al Rajhi Company on the project to build the Maldives' largest mosque in Hulhumalé.
The discussions took place during a special meeting at the ministry today, attended by Minister of Islamic Affairs and Endowments Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed and Al Rajhi Company Chief Executive Officer Bandar Abdullah Al Rajhi.
During the meeting, Dr Shaheem thanked Al Rajhi Company for the generous assistance and support it has been providing towards the major project. He also assured the company that the ministry would provide the necessary support to ensure the mosque project proceeds fully and successfully.
The meeting comes during a visit to the Maldives by a senior delegation from Al Rajhi Company, which includes Chief Executive Officer Bandar Abdullah Al Rajhi. The delegation arrived on Wednesday to attend the foundation-laying ceremony for the mosque, scheduled to coincide with the historic occasion marking 900 years since the Maldives embraced Islam.
The mosque planned for Hulhumalé will serve as a comprehensive Islamic centre with a range of modern facilities. Alongside the prayer area, the building will house a centre dedicated to Islamic civilisation and a Quran museum.
Other facilities will include a multipurpose hall, offices for imams and administrative staff, a library and an exhibition hall.
