The Maldives is making final preparations to welcome Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who is scheduled to arrive in the country tonight on an official visit at the invitation of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
Preparations are underway in the area encompassing Izzuddin Jetty, Republic Square and the President’s Office, where the official welcome for the visiting leader will take place.
Work is currently underway to prepare a flag display facing Izzuddin Jetty, while preparations are also being made at Republic Square ahead of the Malaysian Prime Minister’s arrival.
The visit comes following an invitation extended by President Muizzu during his official visit to Malaysia in April 2025.
It will be Anwar Ibrahim’s first visit to the Maldives since he assumed office as Malaysia’s Prime Minister in November 2022.
During the visit, Prime Minister Anwar is scheduled to meet President Muizzu for official talks between the two countries.
The discussions are expected to focus on strengthening bilateral relations, increasing cooperation in the international arena and exploring new areas of cooperation, according to the President’s Office.
Several agreements in key areas are also expected to be established during the visit, aimed at further strengthening ties between the Maldives and Malaysia.
