President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has officially welcomed Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim during his state visit to the Maldives.
Prime Minister Anwar arrived in the Maldives on Monday night at the invitation of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, and was received by the President along with Cabinet members.
The official welcoming ceremony took place at the Republic Square area in Male’ City on Tuesday morning. On arrival at the Izzuddin Jetty, the Prime Minister was greeted by President Muizzu, where they observed a cultural item by Maldivian School students. President Muizzu then accompanied the visiting prime minister to the saluting dais, and a 21-Gun Salute was offered; followed by which the national anthems of Maldives and Malaysia were played. The presentation of host and visiting dignitaries followed.
During the visit, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will hold official talks with President Muizzu. The discussions will focus on bilateral relations, strengthening cooperation in the international arena, and opening new avenues to expand ties across various sectors. The two leaders will also witness the signing of memoranda of understanding in several key areas aimed at further strengthening bilateral relations.
During the visit, Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef, Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla and Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam will each pay separate courtesy calls on the Malaysian Prime Minister.
The Maldives and Malaysia have maintained diplomatic relations for 58 years. The two countries have developed strong ties, including close relations between their peoples, high-level exchanges and continued cooperation across various areas of development.
