Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has concluded his State Visit to the Maldives, during which he held talks with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on strengthening bilateral cooperation.
The two leaders held official talks at the President’s Office, focusing on trade, defence, healthcare, tourism and Islamic affairs, as well as shared positions on key international issues.
During the visit, the Maldives and Malaysia signed Memoranda of Understanding on defence and Islamic affairs and announced plans to begin negotiations towards a Preferential Trade Agreement.
President Muizzu and Prime Minister Anwar also discussed cooperation in renewable energy, digital infrastructure and tourism, and agreed to streamline consular and visa arrangements.
Prime Minister Anwar was received by President Muizzu upon his arrival at Velana International Airport before attending a ceremonial welcome at Republic Square in Malé on Tuesday.
President Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed hosted a State Luncheon in honour of the Malaysian prime minister.
Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef, Speaker of the Parliament, and Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam also held courtesy calls with Prime Minister Anwar during his visit.
Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam formally saw off Prime Minister Anwar at Velana International Airport as he departed the Maldives.
