According to statistics released by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), the 'Male’ Taxi' application has received more than 150,000 trips since it had been launched.
The 'Male’ Taxi' app is a mobile application launched by MTCC to improve and modernise taxi services in Male’. The 'Male’ Taxi' services launched by the Government on April 2 of this year to ease taxi services in Male’.
The services first launched as a web application. To improve the quality of services the mobile application under the name “Male’ Taxi” was launched on June 2. The mobile application allowed customers to find rides easier and the opportunity to schedule their rides ahead of time.
MTCC’s statistics show that 157,971 rides have been booked since the mobile application has launched. So far 52,790 people have registered with the app.
The application has allowed users to pay through the application by depositing money to the application’s integrated wallet. Customers can also pay using their credit or debit cards via the bank payment gateway, as well as by using the Scan to pay services. The application also allows users to see the details of their scheduled trip. Users can also book taxi services using the 'Male’ Taxi' website of by using their hotline number: 1655.
To prioritise customer safety the app has an emergency feature built in. Through the application customers could call and send messages directly to their drivers. In the event where passengers have left their belongings in the car, they will have the feature to report it in the app.
The government has brought in 150 environment friendly electric vehicles from the automotive company Changa Automobiles, to operate Male’ Taxi services. The vehicles come in three sizes. The 'Male’ Taxi' is a 24 hour operational service.
