The Senate of the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) has unanimously passed a resolution calling on President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to contest for a second term in office.
The decision was made during a special Senate meeting convened at the request of council members during the party’s congress, where a total of 1,119 members voted in favour of awarding the party's presidential ticket to President Muizzu for the upcoming election cycle.
Party officials said that the resolution reflects widespread public support and recognition of the President’s national development efforts and administrative achievements since taking office.
Top government officials strongly backed the motion during the session. Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef praised President Muizzu’s leadership, emphasising that national stability, security, and the preservation of the country’s Islamic identity are key reasons for securing a second term.
The Vice President noted that the President has laid a solid foundation for the nation’s future by empowering younger generations while remaining rooted in traditional Islamic guidance.
Echoing these sentiments, the Speaker of Parliament, Abdul Raheem Abdulla, described the resolution as one of the most significant actions taken by the PNC Senate to date. He stressed that maintaining President Muizzu’s trajectory remains the most beneficial path for the prosperity, progress, and overall well-being of the Maldivian people.
