More than 1.1 million tourists have spent their holidays at resorts in the Maldives so far this year, according to statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation. This accounts for 72 percent of all tourist arrivals to the Maldives.
According to statistics from the tourism ministry, 1.5 million tourists have visited the Maldives so far this year. Of these, 1,112,766 tourists have stayed at resorts.
Resorts remain the most popular accommodation among tourists visiting the Maldives, followed by guesthouses, where 334,016 tourists have stayed. This accounts for 22.1 percent of total tourist arrivals.
The statistics show that 34,845 tourists stayed at hotels, while 28,596 tourists stayed on safari vessels.
China was the largest source market, with 284,555 tourist arrivals, followed by Russia with 222,055. The United Kingdom recorded 116,658 arrivals, while Italy and Germany recorded 96,010 and 94,494 arrivals respectively.
There are currently 1,277 tourist establishments operating across the Maldives, with a total bed capacity of 67,828.
In addition to resorts, guesthouses on inhabited islands continue to attract a significant number of tourists. A large proportion of tourists visiting the Maldives are choosing local tourism options, contributing to the economies of inhabited islands and increasing the incomes of local communities.
