Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises Hassan Zareer has said the newly launched Maldives Guest Information System will improve information sharing between government institutions and support the digitalisation of government services.
The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA)‘s Guest Information System was launched at a special ceremony by the Finance Minister. The Commissioner General of Taxation Fathmath Ameeza, as well as senior officials from the Finance Ministry were present at the ceremony.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Finance Minister said the system will centralise tourist information and make it easier for government agencies to access and manage the data. He further said it is a significant achievement under President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s Maldives 2.0 vision, and that it would help to achieve the goal of automatic reporting as part of MIRA’s Digital Transformation Roadmap. He further highlighted that the system brings advancements to MIRA’s services.
With the introduction of the system, Green tax-registered businesses can use the system to submit information on tourists staying at their establishments. Information submitted through the system will also be shared with the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, removing the need for separate submission. The system can be integrated with guest management systems used by resorts, hotels and guesthouses, eliminating the need for manual data entry.
Although the system is open for all, MIRA will prioritise onboarding tax payers to the system under two categories. Resorts, hotels and guesthouses with more than 50 beds must start reporting through the system from 1 November 2026. Other green tax-registered entities must start reporting for periods beginning 1 January 2027.
According to MIRA, Green tax filing and payment deadlines remain unchanged despite the system’s introduction. Businesses will still file Green Tax returns and pay through MIRAConnect. Once tourist information is submitted through the new system, businesses will not need to upload a separate information sheet with their green tax return.
Tourist accommodation information from their arrival to their departure can be updated through the new system. MIRA said future integration with Maldives Immigration’s Imuga system is planned.
