Kinolhas sees multiple development projects underway

Kinolhas in Raa Atoll is currently seeing a number of infrastructure and development projects, with the island council and the Government working together to provide residents with better opportunities and a more prosperous future. Particular emphasis is being placed on improving the quality of essential services on the island.

Speaking to PSM News, Kinolhas Council President Ahmed Hussain said work on six projects is currently underway on the island. These include a multipurpose hall and four classrooms at the school, a futsal pitch, a waste centre, a police station, an extension to the health centre, and a new council office building.

“All of these are important projects. Of these, the school classrooms are the most important for residents, followed by the construction of the new council office building,” Ahmed Hussain said.

The construction of four classrooms and a multipurpose hall is expected to ease the shortage of space currently faced by the island’s school and provide greater convenience for conducting additional school activities.

Kinolhas is home to many young people who are passionate about sports, and the lack of a futsal pitch on the island has been one of the main concerns raised by residents. The development of a new futsal pitch by the Government is expected to provide greater opportunities for young people to develop their sporting abilities and help the island achieve further success in sports. Work on an indoor and outdoor gym at the site has also now been completed.

The construction of the new council office and police post is expected to improve the quality of local services and expand the services available to residents. Meanwhile, with the extension of the health centre, healthcare services currently provided for eight hours a day are expected to be extended to 16 hours. The number of doctors will also be increased, while additional services, including laboratory services, are expected to be introduced.

In addition, the establishment of a new waste centre on the island will enable waste to be managed more effectively, while organic fertiliser will also be produced as part of efforts towards achieving “zero burning”.

With a population of more than 600 people, Kinolhas is currently undergoing several important development projects. Residents hope that the projects will be completed as soon as possible, while the Government also aims to complete the work at the earliest opportunity.

Once completed, the projects are expected to bring significant benefits to residents in terms of infrastructure, social development and economic opportunities.
