President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has established Government Services Centres across the Maldives in a move aimed at improving the delivery of public services through integrated service centres.
The centres were established under Presidential Directive No. 16/2026, issued today, using the powers vested in the President under Article 116(a) of the Constitution. They will be administered by the Ministry of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology.
The directive establishes 18 Government Services Centres, covering the country's administrative atolls. The centres are the Government Services Centre – Haa Alifu Atoll, Government Services Centre – Haa Dhaalu Atoll, Government Services Centre – Shaviyani Atoll, Government Services Centre – Noonu Atoll, Government Services Centre – Raa Atoll, Government Services Centre – Baa Atoll, Government Services Centre – Lhaviyani Atoll, Government Services Centre – Kaafu Atoll, Government Services Centre – Alifu Alifu Atoll, Government Services Centre – Alifu Dhaalu Atoll, Government Services Centre – Vaavu Atoll, Government Services Centre – Meemu Atoll, Government Services Centre – Faafu Atoll, Government Services Centre – Dhaalu Atoll, Government Services Centre – Thaa Atoll, Government Services Centre – Laamu Atoll, Government Services Centre – Gaafu Alifu Atoll and Government Services Centre – Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.
The centres have been established to ensure the provision of public services through integrated service centres, in line with Article 65(b)(1) of the Decentralization Act (Act No. 7/2010).
The presidential directive also sets out the official names of the centres and the letter codes to be used in official correspondence.
The establishment of the centres is part of the government's effort to organise the delivery of state services through dedicated facilities serving residents across the country's atolls.
